And this corny line has spawned a sort of AU in my head where the trolls can summon their ancestor’s shadow/ghost/sort-of-leftover-astral-imprint to aid them in battle in a sort of half-possession. (I see the human characters in this AU, but I dunno what they’re doing there.) A good summoner channels only the particular skill or attribute they require, but depending on the summoner’s willpower and the ancestral spirit’s strength, sometimes you get full-on possession, which can be willing or unwilling. The trolls are of course all over the place.
